Cruise NEWS ****

H1N1 flu fears prompted the islands of St. Lucia and Antigua to deny scheduled calls by Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas, according to Art Diskin, Royal Caribbean’s chief medical officer.

The 3,835-passenger vessel was scheduled to call at St. Lucia yesterday and at Antigua today.

The islands’ decisions came after Royal Caribbean reported two crew members and a passenger on the ship had been experiencing flu-like symptoms. The affected people immediately were isolated and treated as is standard procedure.

“Our onboard health protocols are working well, and these illnesses were treated quickly and effectively,” Diskin said.

The cruise ship departed San Juan on June 7 on a seven-night southern Caribbean cruise.

It did make its scheduled stop in Barbados and is scheduled to call in St. Maarten and St. Croix later this week. There is no word on whether those two islands will allow the ship to dock.
